Founder’s Story
How a Single Moment Redefined My Path and Built a Multi‑State RON Corridor
Before I ever became a notary, I was simply a man trying to help someone in my community. A rancher in Rush, Colorado needed work done, and we agreed to trade labor for cattle. It wasn’t formal — just two people trying to support each other the way rural communities often do. She drafted a handwritten agreement, and when I looked at it, I realized how important clear, professional documentation truly is.
One day, she asked me to repair a sink in her home. The plumbing was old and brittle, and when I began working, the pipes broke. She left to haul cattle to the processor, so I was alone trying to fix a problem that had been building for years. I drove two hours to get parts — on my own time and my own fuel — because I wanted to make it right.
Despite my effort, the damage couldn’t be repaired without replacing the entire system. Instead of understanding, she accused me of trying to take advantage of her. It was a moment that could have turned into conflict, but I chose a different path. I left two tool bags behind that day, planning to return before things went south. When she later asked about them, I told her to keep them. Tools can be replaced.
My dignity cannot.
What I didn’t realize then was that this moment — uncomfortable, unfair, and humbling — would become the turning point of my life.
It pushed me toward structure.
Toward professionalism.
Toward a skill that couldn’t be taken advantage of.
Toward a path where my time, integrity, and work were protected.
Toward becoming a notary.
And eventually, toward building a multi‑state Remote Online Notarization corridor.
Today, D.S. Minnich & Son’s Ranch LLC operates with the standards I wish had existed in that moment: clarity, professionalism, accountability, and respect. Our operators are trained through a structured Employee Training Portal, follow a published RON script and handbook, and deliver consistent, compliant service across multiple states.
Looking back, I’m not angry about what happened. In a strange way, I’m grateful. That experience showed me exactly who I never want to be — and exactly who I’m meant to become.
It didn’t break me.
It redirected me.
And everything I’ve built since — the corridor, the training systems, the multi‑state expansion, and the legacy I’m creating for my family — began with that single moment of clarity.
